- Conjunctions are words that connect words, phrases, or sentences.
Coordinating conjunctions are used to connect words, phrases, and simple sentences. There are seven coordinating conjunctions:
for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and
so.
The acronym, FANBOYS, can be used to remember all seven:
For -- And --
Nor -- But -- Or -- Yet -- So |
We will not go to school today, for it snowed heavily last night.
Amber and Avril ran and jumped over the large log together.
Amber ran in one direction, and Avril ran in another.
We can eat Mexican or Italian for dinner tonight.
Will you go to the park, or will you go to the beach?
I will not eat cheese nor any dairy products, really.
Chrissy wanted to go to the party, but she hadn't finished her homework.
