Capitalization
Certain words should always begin with a capital letter.
Races, Nationalities, & Languages
The names of races, nationalities, and languages should always begin with a capital letter.
Example:
RACES
Asian, Hispanic / Latino, Black / African
NATIONALITIES
American, Mexican, Russian, Japanese
LANGUAGES
English, Spanish, French, Korean
Historical Events & Documents
The names of historical events and documents should be capitalized. Not all words in the name of an event or document should be capitalized, though. When there are words like, "the" or "of," in the middle of a name, they are not capitalized.
Example:
HISTORICAL EVENTS
Battle of the Alamo
World War II
HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS
Declaration of Independence
Constitution of the United States
Titles of Books, Stories, & Essays
The first, last, and all important words in the title of a book, story, or essay should be capitalized.
Unless they are the first or last words in a title, prepositions that are four letters or less, coordinating conjunctions, and articles are not usually considered important words in a title and should not be capitalized.
