Sometimes when you learn something new, you have to learn new words too. These new words help you understand the topic better. These words are called academic words and phrases.
When you read, try to find the words that are new to you, or that you know are important to the topic or subject. Sometimes these words will be in bold. Use context clues or a dictionary or glossary to help you figure out what these words mean.
