Illustrations in Literary Text
An illustration is a drawing, map, photograph, or other picture in a text. Illustrations tell the reader more about the passage and help the reader understand the topic.
When you read, look at the illustrations in the passage carefully. They can show:
what the passage is about
more details about a character
more details about where and when the story takes place
