- Irregular verbs
- Irregular verbs are verbs whose past tense is not formed by adding "-ed" to the end of the base verb.
REGULAR
- Joyce crawls under the bed to grab her cat. (present)
- Joyce crawled under the bed to grab her cat. (past)
- The chickens search on the ground for bits of food. (present)
- The chickens searched on the ground for bits of food. (past)
IRREGULAR
- I tear a piece of paper out of my notebook for John. (present)
- I tore a piece of paper out of my notebook for John. (past).
- Miss Robinson sells scented candles and lotions. (present)
- Miss Robinson sold scented candles and lotions. (past)
It is important to remember the past tense of irregular verbs because there are no specific patterns that show how they are formed!
