Verb tenses convey information about actions as they
occur

The three basic verb tenses are the
present

past

future
tenses.
There are also other verb tenses that convey more specific information in a sentence.
PERFECT TENSES

the perfect tenses are used to indicate an already completed action.
present perfect
— shows that an action that began in the past continues in the present or affects the present.
Example:
past perfect
— shows that a past action took place
before
another past action.
Example:
future perfect
— shows that a future action will be completed
before
another point in the future.

PROGRESSIVE TENSES
—
the progressive tenses are used to indicate an ongoing action at a specific point in time
present progressive
— shows that an ongoing action is currently happening.
Example:
past progressive
— shows that an ongoing action was happening at some time in the past.
Example:
future progressive
— shows that an ongoing action will be happening in the future.
