LITERARY ELEMENTS
Literary elements are the various components that make up narrative works. Some of these elements include theme, plot, characters, and setting. They are often used in analyzing a specific work.
Theme
• Theme refers to the overarching message or idea that is explored through a work of literature. A story may have many minor or major themes. Themes are not usually stated outright, so readers must infer them.
|
Plot
• Plot refers to the events that occur in a story. Authors can tell events in a linear or non-linear manner. There are also different writing techniques that can be used to give readers hints about the plot or make it more interesting.
|
Character
• Characters refer to the people, animals, or figures that inhabit a story. They influence and experience the plot of a story. How characters act and what they believe can affect how events in a story unfold.
|
Setting
• Setting refers to the time and place that a story takes place. A setting can be more than a physical location; it can also include the social or cultural environments of a specific time or place. The setting of a story can greatly influence its characters and plot.

All of these components are integral parts of literary works. They work together and influence one another to make a cohesive story that readers can enjoy and discuss.
