Collective Nouns
A collective noun is a word that names a group of something.
Example:
A fleet is a group of ships.
A fleet of ships was anchored off the coast.
Example:
An archipelago is a group of islands.
The state of Hawaii is an archipelago of eight main islands.
A collective noun is singular. It names one group.
Collective nouns usually agree with the singular forms of verbs.
