PLANNING YOUR WRITING
Before you begin writing, you should make a
plan
.
This will help organize your thoughts more clearly.
GENERATING IDEAS
Begin your planning by
generating ideas
for writing. This will help you narrow down a
topic
to write about. There are many ways to generate ideas.
Brainstorming
— This means to come up with as many ideas as possible. It can be done alone or by talking with others in a group.
Drawing
— Drawing pictures is another way to come up with ideas. It may be easier to draw a picture than write down words.
Ideas maps/webs
— These may also be known as
story maps/webs
. Using an idea or story map can help show the
connections
between ideas more easily.
NOTE:
Make sure that the ideas you come up with
match
your writing assignment!
Pets can be a wonderful addition to any family! They provide love and companionship.
Write an
essay
about a pet that you would like to have. This pet can be any animal that you like.
What
topics
would fit with this assignment?
Potential Topics:
dogs, cats, fish, birds, lizards, snakes, frogs, sheep, goats
