VERBS
Verbs
are words that show
action
or a
state of being
.
VERB TENSES
There are three main verb
tenses
:
present
,
past
, and
future
. The tense a verb is in tells
when
something is, was, or will be happening.
Verbs in the
present tense
show actions that are
currently
happening or that happen
regularly
. They may end in "-s," "-es," or have no change.
Example:
She
presses
a kiss to the puppy's head.
The mailman
delivers
many packages every day.
Verbs in the
past tense
show actions that have
already happened
. Many past tense verbs will end in "-ed."
Example:
The chef
baked
a delicious chocolate cake.
The swimmers
followed
after their coach.
NOTE:
Some
past tense
verbs are
irregular
. They do not end in "-ed," and they need to be memorized.
Example:
We
went
to the ice cream shop after the game.
The girl
ran
down the street.
Verbs in the
future tense
show actions that
have not happened yet
or will happen at a
later time
. These verbs always have "will" or "shall" before them.
Example:
We
will jog
when the weather is better.
The teacher
shall finish
the book tomorrow.
