Rhymes are two or more words that have the same sound in their final stressed syllables. Rhyming words are often used at the end of lines in poetry to give them a more musical sound.
Mary Had a Little Lamb
Mary had a little lamb,
His fleece was white as snow,
And everywhere that Mary went,
The lamb was sure to go
Simple Simon
Simple Simon met a pieman,
Going to the fair;
Says Simple Simon to the pieman,
Let me taste your ware.
If you are unsure about which words rhyme, it can help to say them outloud. Some words are not always pronounced the way they look, and this can help you hear the ending sounds of the words more clearly.
