Abbreviations
An abbreviation is a shortened form of a word or phrase. It is made from a group of letters taken from the original word or phrase. Many different words can be abbreviated.
Abbreviations of Months
January → Jan.
February → Feb.
March → Mar.
April → Apr.
August → Aug.
September → Sept.
October → Oct.
November → Nov.
December → Dec.
*Months that are usually not abbreviated: May, June, and July
It is important to abbreviate words correctly so that their meanings are still clear to readers. Abbreviating a word incorrectly could make a sentence or passage quite confusing.
