Plot & Setting
Plot refers to the events that make up a story. These events will be connected in a certain order, and one event will lead to another.
The main events of a plot refer to the biggest or most important things that happen in the story. Main events will change a story in some way and help it move forward.
A conflict is a problem or challenge that characters need to overcome in a story. Conflicts often help move a plot forward.
The resolution shows how the conflict is solved and is the end of a story.
Anthony decided he was going to spend the whole day playing outside. He couldn't wait to go sledding with his friends. He was also going to build the biggest snowman ever!
Setting refers to the time and place that a story takes place. The setting of a story is important because it can affect characters and events.
Characters can act and feel differently in different settings. One type of setting may make characters scared while another may make them laugh.
Events in a story can also change based on a setting. The things that can be done in the morning are different than what can be done at night. The things can be done at the beach are also different than what can be done at a circus.
Julie ran through the park looking for her lost dog. It was the middle of the afternoon. The bright sun was making her tired and sweaty.
Julie sat by the kitchen door, worrying about her lost dog. She wanted to go out and look for him, but it was so dark and cold outside. Instead, she hoped he would come home soon.
