- Contraction
- A contraction is the shortened form of words. The apostrophe (') shows where one or more letters are left out in a contraction. Usually, the first word stays the same, and the second word is shortened.
There are two common types of contractions:
Pronoun and a verb
Examples:
She+has=she’s
I+am=I’m
Verb and the word “not”
Examples:
Are+not=aren’t
Has+not=hasn’t
Some words change when you shorten them.
Example:
Will+not=won’t
