- Some words are related in meaning. It means that they are close in meaning but do not quite mean the same thing. This is the shades of meaning.

Some related words are about the same subject, but describe it a little differently. The words can be arranged from the weakest to strongest degree or lowest to highest amount of something.

(annoyed-->angry-->very angry)
sip-->swallow-->gulp
(drink a little at a time-->take in food or liquid through mouth--> to swallow in big amounts)
walk-->march-->stomp
(to move on foot--> to walk as on parade--> to walk heavily)
