Archetypes
Archetypes are typical characters, settings, or situations in stories. They are recognizable and appear in many different stories from different cultures and time periods. Archetypes help to symbolize universal experiences or beliefs.
Character Archetypes:
- The Everyman — A character that is a regular man or woman that readers can relate to.
- The Hero — The warrior or leader that is destined to save the day.
- The Rebel — The misfit or outcast who does not fit in with others.
- The Sage — A character with great intelligence and skills, like a teacher or a detective, that helps solve problems.
Setting/Situation Archetypes:
- The Garden — A place of purity or cultivation
- The Sea — A dangerous or chaotic place.
- The Quest — The search for something or someone.
- The Battle of Good and Evil — A battle where good ultimately triumphs.
Symbol Archetypes:
- Rivers — life or the flow of time.
- Wheel — a complete cycle
- Light — hope and renewal
- Dark — despair or ignorance
