Nouns are words that name people, places, and things.
PEOPLE: doctors, firefighters, Abraham Lincoln
PLACES: school, library, San Antonio
THINGS: cookie, pencil, laptop
Types of Nouns
Nouns can be common or proper.
- Common nouns name general people, places, or things. They are not capitalized.

PLACES: park, restaurant, theater
THINGS: pancake, doorknob, basketball
- Proper nouns name specific people, places, or things. They should always be capitalized.

PLACES: Mount Rushmore, California, Mexico
THINGS: Oreos, Colgate, Southwest Airlines

- A singular noun shows one of something.

- A plural noun shows more than one of something. A noun can be made plural in different ways.
