- Sight words, also known as high-frequency words, are words that are often used in reading and writing. These words usually cannot be sounded out, so their spellings need to be memorized.

- Compound words
- A compound word is a word made up of two words joined together. The meaning of a compound word is different than the meanings of the two words that make it up.
snow + flake = snowflake
- Every snowflake has a unique design.
grand + mother = grandmother
- Hector and his grandmother made delicious tamales together.
base + ball = baseball
- Victoria clumsily threw the baseball, and it struck someone's back.
